The problem. A CRM that had been in use for a few years. Three versions of the same company, contacts with no job title, country fields holding "UK", "GB" and "United Kingdom" interchangeably, and reports nobody trusted as a result.
What I did. Profiled the records, corrected them, and produced an import-ready file with the original values preserved alongside, plus a change log recording every single edit with its before value, after value, and the reason for it.
What it found. 39 field-level edits across 15 records, and 6 duplicate groups. Two records were flagged rather than changed, including one page containing credentials in plain text that was escalated instead of migrated.
Why I don't do the import. Duplicates are proposed for merge with a recommended survivor and field-level keep decisions. The client reviews, overrides anything I got wrong, and commits it themselves. A cleanup that can't be reviewed before it lands isn't a cleanup, it's a gamble.
